Paʻauilo is a census-designated place in Hawaiʻi County, Hawaiʻi, United States. The population was 595 at the 2010 census. Paʻauilo is located on the northeast side of the island of Hawaii at 20°2′38″N 155°22′13″W / 20.04389°N 155.37028°W / 20.04389; -155.37028. Hawaii Route 19 passes through the community, leading southeast 34 miles to Hilo and west 21 miles to Waimea.According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.1 square miles, of which 1.0 square mile is land and 0.0 square miles, or 4.14%, is water.As of the census of 2000, there were 571 people, 191 households, and 141 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 496.3 people per square mile. There were 198 housing units at an average density of 172.1 per square mile. The racial makeup of the CDP was 15.06% White, 0.18% African American, 0.70% Native American, 41.68% Asian, 5.60% Pacific Islander, 0.88% from other races, and 35.90% from two or more races.
